Built a little farm.\u201d<br \/>\nOr, \u201cThere were salmon in that river<br \/>\nthick as berries in Spring.\u201d<br \/>\nAnd another talks about the Depression,<br \/>\nthe prairie dust swirling over the hood<br \/>\nof his Chevrolet;<br \/>\nor a Vet of the First War<br \/>\nwill tell you how the Canadians<br \/>\ngot so fed up with Paschandaele mud<br \/>\nthey went up to Amiens and gave Hindenburg<br \/>\nhis \u201cDark Day.\u201d Usually, though, it\u2019s the place.<br \/>\n\u201cI don\u2019t know\u2014we built and laboured along<br \/>\nAnd there was no rain.\u201d And far away<br \/>\nstood the ramparts of the Rockies.<br \/>\n\u201cYou can see them on a clear day\u2026\u201d<br \/>\neven on a moonlit night far out under<br \/>\nwild wings. There stand in all people\u2019s minds<br \/>\nthese significant things:<br \/>\nthe forest parting before the river,<br \/>\nthe smell of cedar at dawn,<br \/>\nthe sweat, and the flies, and the gasping\u2026<br \/>\nLake Ontario in Autumn blowing its waves<br \/>\ninto the St. Lawrence, the leaves in flame,<br \/>\nand the grim rock of Huron\u2026Strange<br \/>\nand alone, the north\u2019s lunar landscape,<br \/>\nlike a dream without any name.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>https:\/\/oderickson.com\/ode\/wp-content\/audio\/CanadiansVx3.mp3 &nbsp; We have an unborn vision pushing along the bloodstream.
