Rain

Rain is accepted by the ground.
It falls downtown
upon the ladies with upturned faces
and the babies in their carriages,
on the streetcars and their tracks;
it falls on me
and the garden
it falls on is blooming
and growing and stirring
and the wilderness is roaring.
From the beach it rises in a curtain
over the sea,
darkening and deepening the land.
