Poems: Poems of Becoming

My Paper Hat

I took off my shirt when I got home.
Sat on the bed to stare at the windowpane.
Took off my shoes. Four in the morning.
Looked at the window running with rain.
Took off my paper hat.
Pools of light in the wet aisles of night.
Resolved to dream
there was a chance
of winning.
