The Air was Green

I walked out along the street
to hear the sea; it chimed,
and the air was green,
not properly, but shining
over the mountain, God forsaken;
so I thought of you
and the difficulties you had.

There are thousands like you, I suppose,
in ways, but none with
your sharp grief,
none like those tears—
I have never heard of them.
