What is Vanished

 

What is vanished from the race?
The simple quest.
The single enchantment
under the tree wind
or with a friend in the deep rain,
or alive with tipping at sea                                                                                                  in summer sliding the waves,
Such seas the wind flings.

I have been up gulfs
that shook the heart
broke my bookish truth
in that art of wilding it—
alone, banished from the race…

Learning again, nothing beyond the grave,
nothing but slow roar of snow drum,
ice clang, sea boom of log on log,
and on the cliffs,
the weathering doom…
