The Jewelled Hand

Marc Antony in sleep
was like one of those whoring gods,
high cheeked and muscle-boned.
And that is why Cleopatra fell in love with him.
He was so feverishly alone,
and summarily wanted, without reason.
It took a jewelled hand to rest on him,
to quieten him down, to tell him
she too was alone.
